Help them make a difference as a Community Engagement Officer.

Why it’s an opportunity not to be wasted:

To arrange and attend promotional road shows, community group meetings, Council ward meetings as required.

To conduct visits to individual households to promote the system in underperforming areas and to resolve specific difficulties with particular residents in order to increase participation and reduce contamination.

To co-ordinate and deliver an education programme for local schools and colleges.

To liaise with local community groups on recycling initiatives as required including working with community champions.

To assist in the production of monthly management information for the Client including details of new initiatives that may be trialled within the local community.

To assist the Client in the preparation of applications for grant funding for environmental and recycling activities.

To assist the Client in the preparation of press releases with a view to increasing awareness of the Client’s recycling programme.

To assist on other contracts as required to help promote recycling across the region.

To carry out any other ad-hoc duties as required.

Here’s what Biffa require:

Education/Qualifications

  • Minimum GCSE or equivalent in Maths & English

Experience

  • Experience of delivering presentations to schools and/or local community groups
  • A passion for changing the way the world thinks about waste.
  • Awareness of environmental issues.
  • A willingness to work with a variety of different people.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge and understanding of the requirements of working within a time critical service environment
  • IT literate – comfortable using business software and systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to influence and persuade people
  • Interpersonal skills /assertiveness
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Organised with the ability to simplify complex issues
  • Analytical with the ability to measure & monitor data and take appropriate corrective action
  • Able to communicate at all levels, both in verbal & written form.

Desirable:

  • Waste management or Service industry background
  • Proven track record of working to clearly defined service delivery KPI’s
  • Proven track record of delivering continuous improvement within an operational / service environment
  • Experience of producing and analysing reports using Microsoft Office Suite and internal IT systems
  • A creative background to support with the creation of communications

Knowledge

  • Waste industry knowledge including relevant laws
  • Waste management related qualification level 2 or above
  • Geographical knowledge of Manchester City Centre and Wards

General

  • Full driving licence
